Profile
Dr David Unwin is a British GP based in Southport. He almost gave up medical practice in 2012, so disillusioned was he with the negative health outcomes from conventional medicine for overweight and diabetic patients. He started researching alternatives (to see him in action, click here). He has become the Royal College of General Practitioners National Champion for Collaborative Care and Support Planning in Obesity & Diabetes, and an RCGP Clinical Expert in diabetes. In 2016 he won the NHS Innovator of the Year Award for England for saving more than £45 000 annually on diabetes medication prescriptions. His research publications include:
- Low carbohydrate diet to achieve weight loss and improve HbA1c in type 2 diabetes and pre‐diabetes: experience from one general practice. Practical Diabetes. 2014;
