South African-born Dr Simon Johnson is a knee and shoulder orthopaedic surgeon in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand who actively promotes low-carb, high-healthy-fat (LCHF) diets to his patients to boost health and prevent disease. Dr Johnson has limited his practice to knee and shoulder surgery because he believes that a limited scope of practice is the best way to deliver repeatable high-quality service. His special interests lie in uni-compartmental (or partial) knee replacements and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery and nutrition as a powerful preventative measure. He recognises the role that obesity plays in his patients and says that the condition often precludes being able to operate on them.
